New Leadership for Inclusive Education course launched

The Department of Education has launched two new modules for 2021 on inclusive education, in collaboration with East Sussex County Council, West Sussex Country Council and Brighton & Hove City Council.

‘Exploring Leadership for Inclusive Education’ and ‘Investigating Leadership for Inclusive Education’ are taught taught by faculty and experts within the sector over an 11 week period and cost £1,000 each.

These 30 credit Masers-level CPD modules are aimed at a broad range of school leaders – from those already in leadership roles as Headteachers, Senior Leaders or SENCOs for example, to those who might be aspiring to further leadership responsibilities, including heads of year, pastoral leads or Teachers in Charge. They will also suit teachers in special schools who are team leaders as part of their class teacher role. Similarly, there may be education professionals working in local authorities, or outside formal school settings, who wish to extend their professional development.

All applicants must hold a degree-level qualification and apply by 23 July 2021.

What will I learn?

These modules are designed to enable space for critical thinking about leadership and inclusive education as concepts – and what that means in different contexts.

AUTUMN MODULE 2021

In the Exploring Leadership for Inclusive Education module you will interrogate and problematise concepts of inclusive education, as well as the global policy context. You will also examine and critique models of leadership, and explore innovative approaches to more inclusive leadership. You will be assessed via your submission of a 6000 word critical literature review.

Price: £1,000

SPRING MODULE 2022

You will consider your own practice in Investigating Leadership for Inclusive Education, building your own vision of leadership and increasing your effectiveness. You will be assessed via a portfolio of work, including a critical reflection of your own leadership approach and some initial research.
Price: £1,000

Teaching is over an 11 week period for each module and delivered primarily remotely using Zoom. Sessions will run on Wednesdays from 4-6pm. There will be 2-3 in-person sessions for both modules at the beginning and end of terms for
those who are able to get to the Sussex campus. However, the sessions will also be accessible live via Zoom for those who cannot.
